I am a contemporary, impressionist, oil painter who loves filling canvases with thick paint and lots of color. I am passionate about capturing the energy of natural light in my work. I experimented with other mediums, but discovered oils as my favorite. I like the rich consistency and painting wet into wet. Though I’m drawn to a variety of subjects, my preference is landscape – which evolved out of my love of the plein air (open air) painting process. Painting on location has made me a constant student of natural light and color. Loving to paint the natural world led me to be involved with arts in healthcare. The benefit of bringing the soothing beauty of the outdoors inside to sick patients has been proven to be healing. I love working with healthcare organizations to use my passion to help others heal. My paintings catalog the places I have been, have grown, or to which I’ve been drawn. I paint scenes of the Twin Cities, greater Minnesota, and beyond. My inspiration is always a feeling of emotional connection, whether it comes from memories, awe, or sheer curiosity. And, that emotion is what I attempt to bring to my audience; scenes for them, like me, to be both lost and found in. My paintings can be found in private and corporate collections. more at michelecombs.com
The spaciousness of Minnesota’s landscape inspired me to paint. When I came to Minnesota and encountered enormous fields spreading to the horizon and the open sky beyond, I wanted to paint. Growing up in mountainous and overpopulated Japan, I had never seen such a vast plain and immense sky before. Mixed thoughts of infinite space and freedom swept over me. Without any knowledge of painting or visual art at all, but with a strong desire to put lots of colors on white surfaces I started to paint. Since graduating from Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2001 with a post-bacalaureat degree, I have been painting in oils with many fortunate discoveries.. more at homewoodstudios.com
I am––gasp!––both a fine and commercial artist, sculpting and painting as well as working as a graphic designer, art director and writer. My work self-pollinates; several of my sculptures have been inspired by my work in oils, even by my graphics. I am inspired by many things, including nature and my personal faith. My art often reflects my sense of humor, too, odd as it might be… I delight in finding the whimsy and joy in life. I spent much of my childhood laying under my bunk bed, playing with army men and drawing. I don’t recall exactly when it was that I picked a paintbrush over a rifle, but I do think it was easier to imagine getting splattered with cadmium red than blood… I have studied with noted sculptors Nick Legeros, Roger Junk and, Heidi Hoy, as well as with painters Armand Cabrera, Richard Krogstad and my painting mentor, Reid Galey. I enjoy the great opportunity of teaching at the Minnetonka Center for the Arts, in hopes of encouraging others as my mentors have encouraged and inspired me. And I do it because it’s just fun. My work also reflects the warm Peruvian heart of my wonderful bride and partner, Jeannine. We live in Minneapolis with our dog, ChaCha, and an ever-more-chew-marked collection of artifacts from our travels. My work has been exhibited and is in collections in the US, France, Belgium and Péru. more at johncurriefineart.com
Carolina Brunet was born and grow up in Chile where she got a graphic design degree and a Master in Strategic Communication. She moved to the United States in 2004 and decided to study Abstract painting enrolling at Minnetonka Center for the Arts. Ellen Richman, abstract painter and instructor at the center says: “ Carolina is such a dynamic person, and a part of her dynamic nature is the culture of where she comes from. She brings that to her work. It’s vibrant and full of color.” Eager of knowledge in the art world, she took illustration class in Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), Minneapolis, in 2008.
Six years later, Carolina is establishing herself in the Twin Cities as an emerging abstract artist. She exhibited in 2013 at Common Roots café (March 2013) and Plymouth Creek Center (June 2013) and then at local venues like the Hopkins Center for the Arts (October 2013) in a solo exhibition show. Prior that, she has been showing in Minnetonka Center for the Arts, annual student show, (2010-2011-2012).
With a few successful shows on her resume, Brunet decided to open up her own gallery-studio at the Northrup King Building in Minneapolis. She experienced the busy hubbub that is Art-A-Whirl (May 2014) and Art Attack (November 2014). Like an active member of Nemaa (Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association) she has participated in a silent auction in May 2014 and the Fall fine art show (September 2014). more at carolinabrunet.com
